How to Write an Application Letter that will attract the prospect employer.

What is an Application Letter All About.

An application letter is a document you submit to your prospect employer to express your willingness to fill up their advertised open position. Your application letter explains who you are as an individual and also as a professional. This letter should enumerate your strengths,  skills, achievements & educational background with the aim of getting the attention of the recruitment in charge reviewing the applications.

Application Letter should be a showcase aspect of the applicant personality . This should be written well so as to attract the company you have applied.

Writing an Application Letter

When drafting/preparing a job application letter, please bear in mind the following aspects.

1. Evaluate the job listing.

Job posting  always includes the skills and the abilities  the hiring company wants the applicants to possess. Take note of these qualities and don’t forget to include this in your application letter.

2. Sell your Strength,  Skills and Abilities

The application letter is your opportunity to sell yourself as a qualified candidate for the open position advertised. Mention your strength, Skills and abilities that align in the job posting requirement. Very much helpful if you can support this with document such as certificate documents.

3. Be Concise.

Application Letter should be 1 to 2 pages only. It is important to be concise as much as possible as the hiring manager prefer a paged application letter. A brief application letter is more appealing and manageable to the hiring manager.

4. Proofread the Application letter

This letter is serving as your first impression, so make sure it is as positive as possible. Check / examine your letter does not have any spelling errors or grammatical errors to avoid a negative first impression.

How to Write an  Application letter

Every application should have the following parts in the letter.

1. Create A heading

The heading should include your name and contact information. Email address and phone number is a must. This information should be placed at the top of the letter and will let the reader identify you and provides a way to contact you in the future.

2. Date  – please provide a date when you are about to send the letter.

3. Addressee Details

This should include the name of the addressee, his or her Title Position, the name of the company and the address.

4. The Greeting or Salutation

The greetings of the letter should always be formal. It  usually begin with the word “Dear Mr/Ms the last name of the addressee. The greetings of Salutation always ends with a colon.

Skip a line before you start the Body of the letter.

5. Body / Letter content: –

In the first paragraph of your letter, your fist sentence should mention that you have known the vacant position thru a newspaper or by somebody. This should be followed your interest in applying the said position

  • Second paragraph mention / highlight you past employment experience, qualifications and skills  that has relations to the advertised job that you are applying for

Express appreciation that your letter is being read and reviewed and with express hope of further conversation with a addressee.

6. Complimentary Close

Use the word “Sincerely” and skip two line then your name on the third line. Affixed your signature (within the two lines) at the top of your name.
