Philippine Overseas Employment Administration All About.
The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) is the governments agency in charge of overseeing and regulating the commercial recruitment firms in the Philippines.
Its goal is to safeguard/protect Overseas Filipino workers, or OFW from illegal recruiters and employers by creating and enforcing policies that is for the best interest of the OFW.
POEA guarantees that all job offers from others countries and legitimate. As their goal is to safeguard the interest of the Filipino workers they see to it the recruitment firms are legal and the job vacancies they are promoting is also legal. POEA also assist the aspiring OFW for the legal documents before leaving the Philippines to work in another country.
Starting February 2022, POEA is now called DEPARTMENT OF MIGRANT WORKERS (DMW)
Department of Migrant Workers or DMW formerly Known as POEA, main function is the Employment Facilitation services. Here’s the list of the employment facilitation services of the Department of Migrant Workers.
- Accredits/Register foreign principal and employers hiring Filipino workers.
- Approves manpower requests of foreign principal and employers.
- Assists departing workers at the ports of exit.
- Conducts marketing missions.
- Develops & monitors markets and conducts market research.
- Enters into Memorandum of Understanding on the hiring of Filipino workers with labor-receiving countries.
- Evaluates and processes employment contracts.
- Facilitates the deployment of workers hired through government-to-government arrangements.
- Provides a system of worker’s registry.
Worker’s Protection.
POEA task also to protect the welfare of the Filipino workers working abroad. They provide seminars for information gathering. Also they set up a 24-hour hotline that the OFW can call in case of emergency. Aside from that, they have OFW global mapping and profiling for easy tracking of the OFW.
Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) also controlled the recruitment agencies in the country.
Before trusting an agency you must first check whether that agency is license by the Department of Migrant Workers.
